ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

When: Monday, July 7 – Friday, July 11, 2008

Where: Immaculate Conception School – Lihue

Two Sessions: 9:00 a.m.–12 Noon; 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

The Faith Formation Conference is a celebration of our faith and an opportunity to deepen our communion with Christ through the presence, insights, wisdom, and support of our facilitators and each other. Come nurture your spirit and be reenergized! This program supports a major recommendation of our Diocesan Road Map for Pastoral, Program, and Facility Needs 2008-2013 – Faith Formation.

This program is open for all adults interested in their religious continuing education.  The courses in this program may be applied to catechist certification in our diocese.

You can register on-line at "http://www.hi-care.org" www.hi-care.org or contact Sister Florence Remata at 245-2432.  The fee per class is $10; checks should be made payable to “Office of Religious Education.” The deadline for registration is June 23, 2008.

PARISH RECORDS

The Bishop has received a letter from the Prefect for Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith regarding the archiving of parish records, especially sacramental records. The Prefect has reminded all dioceses that these records are not to be given out to anyone, specifically mentioning the “Genealogical Society of Utah,” for the purposes of microfilming and or digitalizing (archiving) the information.

This echoes the Diocesan Policy that parish sacramental records are not to be released to anyone for archiving purposes, except for the Chancery office. The only persons, who should have access to information contained in parish registers, are those requesting certificates of Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, etc., and only by individuals looking to receive certificates for themselves or for minors to whom they are the parent or legal guardian. Photocopies of parish Sacramental registers are never to be released to anyone. Sacramental records are not open to the public for genealogical or other purposes without prior consent from the Chancery.

If you have questions regarding this, please contact the Department of Canon Law.

MEMORIAL

The new lightweight vestment has been donated to the parish in memory of Frederico Medrano. The vestment will be a welcome change for the priest in the summer time and will be used for many years to come.

Mahalo for your generosity.

ALOHA FROM SISTER THERESA

Aloha Father Bill: I wish to take this opportunity to thank you in a special way for being such a great person to work with. It has been a pleasure having you as a pastor, leader, and luna. I will miss your great sense of humor and early morning raids on the Maui potato chips! One of my major regrets in leaving Kauai is losing you as a boss and friend.

Aloha Parishioners: I thank all of you for your support, encouragement and friendship. I was enlightened and educated by your good examples, dedication, loyalty and faith in God and our church. I ask for your prayers as I continue on my journey here on earth. Perhaps I will see a few of you on occasion in Honolulu.

Aloha and Mahalo to all.

PRO-LIFE QUOTES FOR PARISH BULLETINS

The love of God does not distinguish between the newly conceived infant still in its mother’s womb, the baby, the youth, the grown adult, or the elderly, because in each of them He sees the sign of His own image and

likeness.  (Pope Benedict XVI)

America, you are beautiful…and blessed…The

ultimate test of your greatness is the way you treat every human being, but especially the weakest and the most

defenseless.  If you want equal justice for all and true

freedom and lasting peace, then America, defend life.

(Pope John Paul II)

ADDRESS AND/OR PHONE NUMBER CHANGE?

Have you recently moved? Have you changed phone numbers lately? Do you have a new member living in your household? If the answer is YES to any of these questions would you please call the rectory and give your updated information to Laura Goodrich our parish secretary. Our rectory phone number is: 245-2432.

Altar servers, lectors and Eucharistic ministers, please give me a call if you will be away at anytime during the summer so that we may find a replacement for you while you are away.

If anyone is interested in receiving parish donor envelopes please call the parish secretary who will arrange a set of "starter envelopes" for you. Our church envelopes are mailed to parishioners every four months. If someone stops using the envelopes they will be dropped from our mailing list.

Mahalo!         Father Bill Shannon

FREE NATURAL ASTHMA, ALLERGY AND VOG RELIEF EVENT

This workshop will be given by Grand Master Hong at the Qi Gong Center, (at Immaculate Conception School in Lihue), on Saturday, July 19 and again on Tuesday, July 29 and on Monday, August 18. On each of these days the program will run from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Please call Lynn at 639-4300 for more information.

STAINED GLASS WINDOW PROJECT

As you know, we have been pursuing the possibility of purchasing two antique stained glass windows for the sanctuary in our church. The idea is to return to the original look of the church although the original “stained glass” windows were really colored decals. The windows we are looking at now will be made of real antique pieces of glass.

A Maui stained glass window artist has shown us drawings of several beautiful designs that capture the artistry of our old and very lovely high altar. We have made the final selection of the design and colors. The artist created a large watercolor rendition of our choice. The watercolor was on display in the back of the church for several weeks.

The tentative cost estimate is between $8,000 and $9,000 per window. The cost of these windows is not in our normal budget so we will depend on memorial and other donations to cover the cost. To date we have raised $7,150 to pay for the creation and installation of the two stained glass windows.

Father Bill Shannon, Pastor
