Pro-life Quotes For Parish Bulletins

Every human life, from the moment of conception until death, is sacred because the human person has has been willed for its own sake in the image and likeness of the living and holy God. (Catechism of the Catholic Church #CC2319)

Today, the conflict is between a culture that affirms, cherishes and celebrates the gift of life, and a culture that seeks to declare entire groups of human beings-the unborn, the terminally ill, the handicapped, and others considered “unuseful” to be outside the boundaries of legal protection. (Pope John Paul II)

I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child. (Mother Theresa)

And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?

(Mother Theresa)

The New Standard

Plato likened the soul to a charioteer whose task it was to drive two horses.  The one horse was gentle and biddable and obedient to the reins and to the word of command; the other horse was wild and untamed and rebellious.  The name of the one horse was reason; the name of the other was passion.  Life is always a conflict between the demands of the passions and control of the reason.  The reason is the leash, which keeps the passions in check.  But, a leash may snap at any time.  Self-control may be for a moment off its guard – and then what may happen?  So long as there is this inner tension, this inner conflict, life must be insecure.  In such circumstances there can be no such thing as safety.  The only way to safety, Jesus said, is to eradicate the desire for the forbidden thing forever.  Then and then alone life is safe.

The new standard kills all pride, and forces us to Jesus Christ who alone can enable us to rise to that standard which he himself has set before us.

The Gospel of Matthew, by William Barclay

Aloha to Sister Theresa Chow

Sister Theresa will be leaving us on June 20th. She will return to Oahu and begin a new assignment at St. Augustine Church in Waikiki.

I would like to thank Sister for her very dedicated service as our parish receptionist. She has also been very active in visiting our homebound parishioners. She has also coordinated work of those in the flower ministry and she has managed our parish gift shop.

Our prayers and best wishes go with her. Sister has requested that we have no parish farewell party for her but our staff will have a special luncheon for her before she leaves. Sister Theresa has made many good friends here on Kauai and I’m sure we will see her on visits back here from time to time.               Mahalo...Father Bill Shannon, Pastor
