Clergy Schedule

v  Father Bill will be on vacation from May 13-28th. He will be going back to New York and New England to visit his friends and family.

Memorial Donation

The two new candles for our sanctuary have been given to the parish in memory of Lawrence and Rosella Alao and Crispin and Celerina Alao. The new candles will replace the two, older style candles that we use for Mass.   Mahalo for your generosity!

I had requests from several parishioners regarding memorializing the new candles.  In the course of the next several months, there will be more opportunities for memorializing as we replace older items in our sanctuary.  Mahalo to everyone for your continued help in enhancing our liturgy and maintaining our church.

Trinity Sunday

I begin again today with the sign of the cross. I hardly ever think of the words but how momentous they are: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Amen, that’s right, yes. It is the sign of the Holy Trinity, beginning and ending every prayer, as it should each endeavor of mine. The three holy names, with the pouring of water, began my Christian life and will be a pronounced over it at the finale.

Dear God, the Bible accounts of you, which show Wisdom playing side by side with the Creator and the Spirit breathing life where there wasn’t any, hint to us of all your depths and facets, your full-to-overflowing life. It took the coming of Jesus to reveal, to open up to us, the mystery of the divine persons, your complete and perfect sharing as Father, Son, and Spirit. You are a God of plenty-outwardly, toward us, and inwardly, with yourself.

God is no loner-what a relief to learn that. We know from the ache of going it alone that we are meant rather for companionship, feedback, attention. Self-sufficient, you are self-sharing too, beyond what we could ever imagine.

We call you “Father” because whatever issue from you-your Son, your Spirit, all the rainbow of creatures-elicits all of your concern. A generous provider, you cannot take your eyes off us or your affection away from us. The song has it right: You’ve got the whole world in your hand. You want us to turn out well. We feel so small before you in the theater of the universe, but you assure us of our importance by making us in your image, to resemble you.

We call you “Father” - “abba,” like “dad” or “pop” -because the word was put in our mouth by Jesus your true Son, who had it on His lips all the time. You sent Him at the peak of our longing, “in the fullness of time.” The divine child came, “true God and truly human.” The Master taught as one having authority, which meant being grounded in you and in direct touch with you. The Savior offered himself for us as the Lamb of God, whose life went out to you. And death could not hold Him.

Father and Son, you have sent your Holy Spirit, the inward teacher. With this precious gift, the Spirit of truth, we can lift our hearts; we can turn to you saying, “Ah, so THAT’S God.” In our puzzlement we can wake up suddenly: “Oh, THAT’S what God wants of us.” We praise and thank you, God, continually, Father, Son and Spirit.

Father James Torrens, S.J.

Convalidation Mass This September

I would like to plan a group Convalidation Mass for this September. A Convalidation marriage ceremony is an opportunity for civilly married couples (by a judge, a minister or a justice of the peace). The couple must be free to marry in the Catholic Church in order to have a Convalidation ceremony.

Deacons Tom and Bill and myself will be available in the months of June, July and August to work with couples to plan for the Convalidation Mass. The "beauty" of a group Convalidation Mass is that the parish will plan the ceremony. There will be little to no expense for the couple. They and their witnesses will just have to show-up for a rehearsal and the Mass and not have to worry about wedding details.

Please give me a call at 245-2432 if you would like to set up an appointment to discuss the possibility of a Convalidation. I'm going to schedule these meetings for June since April is a busy month for me and I'll be away for most of May.
