Clergy Schedule
v Father James Torrens, SJ arrives from California to cover parish duties while Father
Bill is away for the priest's convocation and then vacation.
v Father Bill and all the priests in the diocese will be attending
the annual priest's convocation on Oahu from May 5-9th. He will be on vacation from May 13-29th.
Parish Council Meeting
Our next parish council
meeting will be on Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the rectory meeting room.
The council will be
reviewing the plans of our subcommittee for our 125th parish anniversary, which falls in 2009. The subcommittee has made excellent
progress thus far.
We have two large boxes of historical and hysterical old photographs.
Committee members have already started to sort out these old photos.
Convalidation Mass This September
I would like to plan
a group Convalidation Mass for this September. A Convalidation marriage ceremony is an opportunity for couples that have been
civilly married, (by a judge, a minister or a justice of the peace). The couple must be free to marry in the Catholic Church
in order to have a Convalidation ceremony.
Deacons Tom and Bill
and myself will be available in the months of June, July and August to work with couples to plan for this
Convalidation Mass. The "beauty" of a group Convalidation Mass is that the parish will plan the ceremony. There will be little
to no expense involved for the couple. They and their witnesses will just have to show-up for a rehearsal and the Mass and
not have to worry about any wedding details.
Please give me a call at 245-2432 if you would like to set up an appointment to discuss
the possibility of a Convalidation. I'm going to schedule these meetings for June since April is already a busy month for
me and I'll be away for most of the month of May, (Priest's Convocation and then two weeks of vacation).

Parish Secretary/Bookkeeper Position
The position of both secretary and bookkeeper is
a full-time job. It may be necessary to have one person in the secretarial job and one serving as bookkeeper, both on a part-time
basis. The salary level will be related to the applicant’s skill and experience.
Applications
and job descriptions for the positions are available at the receptionist’s desk in the rectory office. The start-up
date for the job is July 1, 2008. Applicants are required to provide at least
two references. The Catholic Church requires an independent background check on all new employees. The parish
will pay a nominal fee for this background check. The background check is done with the applicant’s knowledge and permission.
Applicants for this position(s) do not need to be parishioners. It is, of course,
very helpful if the parish secretary is Catholic. Please give me a call at 245-2432 if you would like more information about
this position.
I hope to make a hiring decision by Monday, April 28th, 2008.

Laughter, The Best Medicine
Sunday after church,
a Mom asked her very young daughter what the lesson was about. The daughter answered, "Don't be scared, you'll get your quilt."
Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed. Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea and the Mom asked him what that morning's
Sunday school lesson was about. He said, "Be not afraid, thy comforter is coming."
Did You Know?
How Old Does a Child Need to Be in Order to Stay Alone?
Don’t assume that when your child understands what you’re
saying, he’s ready to walk out the door by himself. Besides the fact that many states have laws against leaving children
of certain ages alone (for example, younger than 12), experts say children shouldn’t be left by themselves until they’re
capable of fighting off an abductor or handling a crisis situation. Experts
also say children do not have the mental maturity to cross busy streets by themselves until they’re about 10 or 12 years
old. (Did you know that pedestrian injuries rank third in child fatalities, behind traffic accidents and drowning?) Finally,
parents who are certain their young children would never walk away with a stranger will be shocked to learn that studies show
they probably will. Stay alert and vigilant, even if you believe your child is aware of possible dangers from others.

What Is Your
Catholic IQ?
Q: Is the Catholic Church we belong to only “Roman”?
Q: How do we distinguish the “Church Universal”
from the “Church Particular”?
Q: Do you know your rights as a lay member of the
Catholic Church?
If you would like to know the answers to the above and other questions you may have regarding our Catholic faith, please
come to the Continuing Adult Religious Education gathering at Immaculate Conception Church RECTORY MEETING
ROOM on Monday, April 28th, at 7:00 p.m. and bring a friend!

Filipino Catholic Club is sponsoring this program.
"Dark And Stormy Night"
The
author of this article collected actual similes, analogies, and metaphors that high school students submitted in an essay
contest.
"Her
face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master."
"His
thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a drier without Cling Free."
"Her
vocabulary was as bad, as like, whatever."
"He
was as tall as a fix-foot-three tree."
"The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife's
infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge free ATM."
"John and Mary never
met. They were like two humming birds who never met."
"He fell for her like
his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River."
"Even in his last
years, Grandpappy had a mind like a steel trap, only one that been left out so long it had rusted shut."
